Sharing social media images should be a vital part of your social media marketing. If not already, it should be by the time you read this post. Here’s why…
Visual content gets 87% more engagement on social media than any other type of content because we as humans are naturally very visual beings.
In fact, our brain processes visual content 60,000x faster than text. Somewhere around 90 percent of the information inside our brains is visual. This illustration says it all:
This is exactly why sharing social media images should be a vital part of your social media marketing. Every post you share must be accompanied by an image (yes, you heard right, every post). By sharing social media images, you’ll reach more people – people who, like you and I, are very visual beings!
I think Noland Hoshino‘s take on social media is pretty spot on. He says it’s:
“Like looking out the window of a fast moving train. If you insert a “billboard” (photo or graphic image) post, people will notice it.”
I find that most business owners tend to see the power of social media, but don’t really know how to fully leverage it to drive the most engagement – and ultimately leads – for their business.
It all comes down to the type of content you post. The more eye-catching and visual your content, the more likely people will engage with it (likes, shares/retweets, comments). And the more regularly you post, the better.
Whether you like it or not, we live in a visual world and your business absolutely needs visual content.
So, today, I’m going to give you 14 killer ideas for creating social media images that will boost your engagement!

14 Ideas for Social Media Images That Will Boost Engagement
1. Holidays and Special Days
There are so many special days that occur throughout the year that you can mark on your social media calendar and create a social media image for.
You’ve got holidays like Christmas and Easter, Health Awareness Days like World Health Day and International Day of Happiness, and International World Days like Earth Day and Global Family Day.
Add a fact about each holiday or event to your social media image and be a source of interesting information.
If you’re in need of some good images to brand as your own and share on social media, we’ve designed bundles of ready-made social media images for all the Holidays & World Days celebrated throughout the world each year that you can download, add your branding to, and post to social media:
We’ve also designed some beautiful ready-made social media images for different National Holidays – you can download them for free to get you started:
2. Testimonials
Find one of your most loyal customers that’s been with you for a long time and ask for a video testimonial. Video testimonials are very effective because they have social proof and are easy to take in!
If your customer is local, you can arrange to go and record their testimonial for them in person (if you’re feeling adventurous) or you can record it next time they have an appointment with you. Otherwise, just ask them to record it on their own iPhone or webcam and send it to you.
Video testimonials are super effective and they don’t have to be flashy either – none of that “lights, camera, action” stuff. This is a great example of a video testimonial that Marta (our of our customers) recorded on her phone for us:
If your customer records a video testimonial, ask them to send you the video file so you can upload it to your YouTube account and share the link on social media (or get them to upload it to their own YouTube account and share the video from there).
If you’d prefer to create a social media image of a testimonial you’ve received instead, you can use a photo of your customer and accompany it with their testimonial, along with their name and even include how long they’ve been a loyal customer for. You can even take snippets from their video testimonial and turn them into social media images giving you even more content to share!
Here’s an example of a social media image for a testimonial that we created using Canva from one of our happy customers (thanks, Kylie!):
3. Inspiring Quotes
Inspiring quotes are always re-shared like crazy on social media. They never get old and people love them. I mean, let’s face it, we’re always looking for a little inspiration in life and since we spend so much time on social media, I’m not surprised quotes get so much engagement.
Since boosting engagement is exactly what you’re looking to do, quotes should definitely be on your list of content that you share.
Find some good quotes online and create a spreadsheet of all the quotes you like. There’s a whole sea of quotes out there – inspirational, motivational, positive, health or wellness related. Whip open Canva and create an eye-catching social media image for each quote you collected, then share them on social media.
Quotes provide a great basis for a post and people love sharing them, which means more engagement for you.

4. How-To’s and Tutorials
Put together a tutorial on some area of what you do that you think your followers will find useful. Write out a series of simple steps, then create a social media image out of them in Canva.
Depending on your industry, here are some ideas for tutorials you can create that your followers can do at home:
- Stretching techniques
- Yoga poses
- How to safely perform acupuncture on yourself
- DIY trigger point therapy
- How to give your partner a massage
- How to get rid of migraines
- Essential oil diffuser recipes
- How to make your own body scrubs
- Workouts
A great example is this vibrant bundle of social media images we created that includes different breathing exercises and steps on how to perform each one:
You can even go that one step further and create a video tutorial! You might think you need all the fancy high-tech equipment, but you really don’t. Got an iPhone? That’s all you need to create professional-looking videos!
5. Competitions
Competitions are a great way to help your business grow. Sometimes you have to give a little to get back a lot. So give something away for free, like a 30 minute service, membership, or product (if you have inventory).
Create a social media image with some text explaining the competition prize and how to enter. Leverage the competition to increase your engagement on social media by asking your followers to like, share or comment on the competition post as part of entering the competition. This can be a great way to increase your follower base, too!
Here’s a great example by Bodhi Thai Massage:
Speaking of Thai massage, I could go for one right now! 😉
6. Tips & Tricks
Share interesting tips and tricks that will educate your followers and give them some ideas on different tips and tricks to try. This is value-sharing at its best. It could be a tip or trick you have up your sleeve that you want to share, or you can always search Google for some ideas for tips and tricks.
We’ve created social media images for different tips and tricks like tips to be happy, health tips and tricks, tips to reduce toxic load and eco-friendly cooking tips. You can even create a series of tips on the same topic and share them on social media weekly. Try having a “Tips & Tricks Thursday” to get your followers excited to get tips from you each week.
Actionable information like tips and tricks goes a long way so be a source of valuable information!
7. Team Member Profiles
If you have a team, create a social media image for each team member with their photo, name and bio. If your business accepts online bookings, be sure to include the link so people know how they can book an appointment or session with them online (include the link in the post description, too).
Here’s one I’ve whipped up to give you an idea:
Pro Tip: Encourage your team members to share their own social media image profile that you created (they’ll naturally want to promote themselves) – this is a great way to gain even more reach!
8. Services You Offer
Create images and videos around the services you offer like a photo or video of you in action during an appointment with a customer, or a class or workshop you’re holding with a group of people.
Something like this social media image we created in Canva (always include a ‘call to action’ in the image if you can):
9. Before and After Transformations
Before and after transformations show people the benefits of your services and build trust in your business. Put a before and after photo together (with the consent of the customer, of course) and share it on social media.
It might be a change in posture after regular treatments, a weight loss body transformation, a customer’s ability to hold a tricky yoga pose after a certain number of sessions, an improvement in skin after a facial, or a before and after hair transformation.
Use Canva to put a before and after photo together and create a social media image, ready to share with your followers showing them the kinds of results they can experience if they book an appointment with you:
10. Facts
Find some interesting facts online that are relevant to your industry and will educate your followers, then turn it into a visual image to make it stand out.
Depending on your industry, here are some ideas:
- One in three adults receive the recommended amount of physical activity each week.
- A 60 minute massage is about the same as 7-8 hours of sleep to your body.
- The word yoga means “union” or “being united” with the Divine Spirit.
- Homeopathy is an alternative medical system that was developed in Germany more than 200 years ago.
- Naturopathy can heal illness, as well as improve overall health and energy.
In fact (pardon the pun), we’ve got a bunch of ready-made bundles of social media images containing industry-related facts right here for you to download and share instantly, just like these vibrant social media images:
11. Infographics
Infographics are a fun and quick way for your followers to learn about a topic without a ton of heavy reading.
You can share infographics related to your industry that others have created but we recommend you create your own. It can take a lot of prepping and time, but it’s worth it in the end! Just don’t forget to include your branding (logo, website address) on the bottom so everyone knows who created it!

12. Behind The Scenes
People want to know the real you and meet the people behind your business. Social media is about building a community so share photos from any events, lunches, meetings, volunteer work, and just plain fun you’re having behind the scenes.
13. Blog Articles
Got a blog? Post your articles on your social media pages too. You want to drive traffic back to your blog so be sure to add the link for people to read your article. You can even tease people with a snippet from an upcoming article you’ve been working hard on to build anticipation.
14. Re-Share Relevant Content
Share content from other social media pages that you think people will want to read. As long as it’s credible and has value, it’s great for sharing. Make sure to comment why you found the content compelling enough to share, and maybe even ask for your followers’ take on it to increase engagement that way.
You can use a content curation tool like Scoop. It to find relevant content that you can easily re-share on social media. Here’s how Scoop. It works:
