For us here at Healthinomics, we are always looking for new but effective social media hacks to grow our business.
But for some health and wellness business owners, social media falls into the ‘too hard’ basket…. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
My one piece of advice is – ‘Don’t give up on social media before actually giving it a real go’.
Don’t throw in the towel for the lack of time, for the lack of skills and as for the rest—for the lack of results.
Sure social media is a learning curve but so is everything. So don’t give yourself permission tp give up, give yourself permission to succeed!
We have tried and tested many social media strategies, I have put together a few of our own personal favorite actionable ways that might be the missing oomph to your social media strategy.
So if you’re on the brink of losing hope, don’t shrug off social media yet.
Give these 4 easy and quick social media hacks a chance so you can finally have what every social media expert desire: massive audience growth that converts
1. Tell a Good Story
Stories don’t just drive our imaginations, they drive our emotions. For you and me, this means the best way to cultivate a cult following is by tapping into people’s emotions.
According to research conducted by Scott Magids, Alan Zorfas, and Daniel Leemon, clients who are “fully connected” emotionally to a brand spend twice as much on average than customers categorized as “highly satisfied.” Take advantage of this by executing emotionally-charged ideas that make customers feel understood and important.
Long gone are the days when stories and fairytales begin in a once-upon-a-time book. Thanks to technology and social media hacks, stories can be told through Facebook posts, tweets, pins, images, videos and even live streams!
You’ve got every social media platform at your disposal to tell a really good story about who you are and what your health and wellness business is all about. So go and do it!
2. Tell Your Story on Facebook
The Humans of New York Facebook Page can make a long story so interesting you’d actually take time to click “See More” to read the full post.
It’s often found that shorter posts have higher click-through rates according to the National Public Radio (NPR) but while it feels like a hassle to read such lengthy and wordy Facebook posts, a captivating (emotionally driven) story goes against the rules and increases engagement especially when it is coupled with an engaging visual image or video.
Did you know that you can also tell a story just by sequencing your Facebook ads?
Social Media Examiners shares another clever way to tell a story about your business without overselling. In their article, Fashion and style website Refinery29 tested Facebook ads that were sequenced like stories.
The sequence testing was such a hit in their social media hacks that it yielded a 56% conversion lift, an 87% rise in view-throughs. a 7% increase in in-store purchases and a 10% increase in online purchases.
Take a squizz behind the scenes of the creator of the Humans of New York wen series to see how he taps into the emotional of telling a compelling story.
3. Share a Twitter Moment
A 140-character story on Twitter is now a thing of the past thanks to Twitter Moments.
In their blog, Twitter highlights Moments as the dynamic way to capture and experience richer stories for a more powerful Twitter experience.
This creative format of telling a story on Twitter just might be for you too. How about curating a relevant content or news and sharing your excitement or opinion about it like the way Product Hunt shared Snap Inc.’s spectacles launch.
4. Instagram Your Story
An alternative to sequencing your posts on Facebook is by creating carousel ads or using several photos to create a huge image on Instagram. Done right, you can arouse your follower’s curiosity and move them to check out the entire picture in your profile. It can be a new product, a new service or anything captivating about your business.
While high image quality is crucial to your success so is an intriguing and stimulating caption to complete the story. Use the caption to come up with a creative narrative like what Airbnb and Herschel Supply Co. are doing in their Instagram account. Remember, you don’t have to worry about keeping it short on Instagram you have 2,200 characters to come up with something interesting!
5. Tug Heartstrings on Youtube
Another way to cut thru the clutter on Youtube is by coming up with an emotionally-charged video like this campaign from card store titled #worldstoughestjob.
Take a peek at the awesome social media hack.
The campaign used a sarcastic yet amusingly written script for the job interviewer who actually conducted interviews among real applicants for a company job offer that doesn’t exist.
What will get you laughing, in the beginning, is not just the impossible demands of the job and the way the interviewer revealed them but the dismaying unbelief of the applicants.
You’ve got to lose your heart if this video doesn’t touch or even make you cry in the end.
The takeaway here is the lack of sales pitch only the memorable story that will inspire you to actually buy a card!
Also, videos offer much room for growth and creativity when it comes to storytelling. Videos have long proven their worth to go viral and increase audience engagement why it is a must-have in our next social media hacks.
6. Create Viral Video Content
Among all the different types of content, videos, when done right, are up there with one of the best ways to be the most engaging according to a research by HubSpot.
So if you have time and the right resources, never run a marketing campaign without video ads you can spread across all platforms.
Even before the digital age and after the dinosaur age, watching on television has always been the most favorite human hobby. While most of the traditional advertising mediums have disintegrated with the rise of social media, TV has remained a favorite staple in every household.
Simply put, we all love to watch entertaining videos! Facebook also understands the engagement power of videos which is why it’s prioritizing videos in news feeds especially videos that are created in Facebook…
Because they want you to stay longer on Facebook and not click a link that takes you away from Facebook to another platform.
You can even come up with a fascinating short film that meets the 120-minute limit, or a 10 second pan on a cute cat, the length doesn’t matter. Just wants in the content.
Having said that, Facebook has already announced that “the best length for a video is whatever length is required to tell a compelling story that engages people, which is likely to vary depending on the story you’re telling.”
Someone who nailed this is JP Sears (see video above). He is a life coach and internet comedian. He is known for his satirical parodying of veganism, gluten-free fads, new age beliefs, and other “modern hippy” topics with his video series Ultra Spiritual and has hit success big time with his youtube videos going viral around the world.
If you want a few tips in this area start watching some of his YouTube videos and getting a few ideas for yourself.

Kayla Itsines is the queen of Facebook live for work out tips, sharing education information and motivating her community to achieve real results.
She has turned your business into a multimillion-dollar empire by simply using social media to reach a bigger audience to connect with.
So let’s try and break it down a second.
What makes reality shows a hit is an authenticity behind the storytelling which makes live videos similarly alluring.
Facebook also ranks live videos higher in news feeds which is a great way for you to be noticed no matter what you do when you go live.
Celebrity superstar Stephen Amell never fails to draw a crowd every time he goes live and he’s good at building anticipation by making an early announcement.
But even the simple Chewbacca Mom outshines any other celebrity when it comes to live videos. Candace Payne’s Facebook Live video was surprisingly the most watched Facebook Live in 2016.
Here’s a tip: don’t go live without preparation. Plot your storyline, will you be teaching them how-tos, crash courses on graphic design or make a laugh of yourself? When you’re done, don’t forget to ask and respond to comments and Q&A’s.
8. Create a Short Video on Instagram
Instagram videos are set to a 60-second limit but that’s way beyond a 10 seconder TV commercial. Imagine what you can do in a minute: showcase your biggest business strength, give a tour of your office or how you work or share something about your company culture, ideas can be endless.
It doesn’t have to be record-breaking or world-changing, just keep it interesting and real and don’t forget on-screen captions work well too.
You could be the local health and wellness superstar that everyone is talking about by just jumping on the live video bandwagon 🙂
9. Create a Youtube Channel
According to Kissmetrics, the top reasons people watch videos on Youtube are the following:
- 70% are looking for information such as DIY tips, tricks, and tutorials.
- 67% visit YouTube for product reviews
- 53% turn to videos for inspiration or entertainment.
- 52% of shoppers agree that watching product videos makes them more confident about making a purchase
- 40% of shoppers agree that they would visit a store online or in-person after watching a video
Statistics aside, video engagement is crucial for conversion. Take a look at how Apple and Nike are sharing inspiring and innovating stories. But you don’t have to be a tech or shoe giant to come up with something big.
You can try coming up with a channel that tells more about your business or yourself. Share stories from your clients or your charitable advocacies or even an instructional video on how you can do some things better (like fry an egg).
Again, it doesn’t have to be long or high-budgeted, you just need to make it educating, entertaining or inspiring.
10. Add Visuals (Images, Memes, GIFs)
Any social message with a visual just looks better and gets more engagement. The facts is, tweets with images tend to get 22.3% more engagement than tweets with no images but tweets with GIFs get 166.6% more clickthroughs than tweets with just images.
Just like GIFs, Memes are also well-shared because of the splash of humor involved. We just all love a whip of wit.
If you want ready-made high-quality images, there are also tons of choices you can just grab and post so you save time and engage your audience more!

Best of all, it saves you time thinking about what effective posts to share in the next year. Isn’t this the best hack?
Just always remember to maximize your visuals in your social media hacks.
- Add images to your social media posts to tell a vivid and more interesting story
- Add GIFs and MEMEs to spice up your posts and express feelings better
Take the case of hearty sandwich Jimmy John’s with their sandwich memes about ‘You Vs. The Guy She Tells You Not To Worry About’ on Twitter.
Jimmy John’s ran a series of funny memes comparing your dull self to a better beefed up rival thru their sandwiches versus a lackluster cheese sandwich.
The meme took off with 5,000 likes and 2,600 Retweets.
Barkbox, a subscription service company for dogs also rode on the Meme trend but this time on Instagram.
Their video meme of a hedgehog getting a belly rub with the caption, “sorry babe, got to rub my hog” has been viewed more than 86,000 thousand times and has inspired more than 1,100 people to comment
11. Host Social Media Contests

Last but definitely not the least among our social media hacks is engaging your audience and growing your following thru social contests.
Take into consideration that 35% of Facebook fans only like a page so they can enter contests or that 42% of fans like a page to get a discount.
In Buddymedia’s report, contest-related words alone like; winner, win, entry, contest, enter and promotion were all enough to catch attention and engage followers. Because people are motivated by freebies or by winning, Instagram and Facebook are great platforms for social contests.
Here are some of the most effectively used contests you can use as social media hacks.
- e contest – Ask your followers for their opinion on an image, video, or other set of media. Recovery Guidance did this and took it a step further, asking users to like their page to enter the contest and vote.
- Sweepstakes – Set up a landing page on your site where visitors can enter to win a giveaway. Make social sharing and following a requirement for entry. See some great examples here for inspiration.
- Photo contest – Ask followers to submit their photo doing something related to your niche. Ask them to use a branded hashtag to enter to win. If you’re looking for inspiration, take a page out of the playbook of Joshua W. Glotzer and Credit Glory, two brands in eccentric niches, who use these tactics to grow their Facebook following.
Bonus Social Media Hacks: Consistency, Responsiveness, and Honesty
It’s not just about what you can share but how often you can share. Be consistent in all the best things you do to establish your authority.
Dr. Rachna Jain, who studies the psychology of social media, says, “When people see you more, they like you more. The shorthand is that familiarity breeds likeability. Especially if you’re seen as giving them value or good content or information.”
Building a following takes time but “Research shows that customer emotions become permanent with time. So be responsive to your audience when they comment or engage in your posts.
If you don’t do anything to respond, it doesn’t matter what you post, you’ll look like someone inactive, robotic or indifferent.
Finally, you don’t get high sales by making grandiose promises, you earn it by giving value to your market and connecting with them on an emotional level. With all social media hacks, notice that there’s always this human element involved.
Make everything close to your heart. Keep it personal so you stay longer in any business.
